Vești din Houston

Prichinduța noastră se joacă cu niște creioane colorate, pe care le ia din remorca unui camion de jucărie. Repetăm în engleză : orange, pink, red, brown… Mai sunt doi copii în holul clinicii Burzynski. Se joacă și ei cu jucăriile scoase dintr-un cufăr vechi. Pereții încăperii sunt ticsiți cu poze și mesaje de mulțumire ale pacienților doctorului Burzynski. Așteptăm. O așteptăm pe mama să termine tratamentul pe ziua de azi.

Așadar, am ajuns în Houston, Texas. Am plecat din România sâmbată, 30 mai – mama, fiica și nepoțica.  Trei vârste, trei chipuri ale eternului feminin, modelate în lut, purtând în suflete același dor de tinerețe fără bătrânețe și viață fără de moarte. Călătoria a fost lungă, cu o escală la Frankfurt. Zborul de la Frankfurt la Houston a durat vreo 11 ore, o adevărată probă de rezistență pentru toate trei. La aeroportul din Houston ne-a așteptat părintele Mirel Tudose împreună cu doamna preoteasă, ne-au primit cu multă căldură și ne-au condus până la motelul unde stăm. Afara ploua foarte tare.

Duminica Rusaliilor am petrecut-o împreună cu comunitatea românească strânsă în jurul Bisericii Sfânta Maria Magdalena. După Sfânta Liturghie, am participat la o masă sărbătorească și am asistat la o mică serbare organizată de copiii din parohie cu ocazia zilei internaționale a copilului. Am fost primiți cu mult drag, ca niște oaspeți deosebiți.

Luni, 1 iunie, am avut o întrevedere cu o echipă medicală formată din Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, Dr. Gregory Burzynski (internist), Dr. Z. Yi (oncolog). După examinarea dosarului medical și a ultimelor investigații imagistice, medicii ne-au explicat că este nevoie de un tratament care să conducă la remisia tumorii și a metastazelor. Au propus un plan de tratament care include tablete de antineoplastoni, o chimioterapie mai blândă și mai ușor de tolerat, la care se adaugă un alt medicament pentru sistemul imunitar. Săptămâna aceasta mama a început tratamentul cu aceste medicamente, care au fost introduse treptat, pentru a se suraveghea eventualele efecte secundare.

Dorim să mulțumim tuturor celor care ne-au ajutat să ajungem aici, pe care îi purtăm în gândurile și inimile noastre. Dorim să mulțumim Părintelui Mirel Tudose și tuturor românilor din Houston care ne ajută prin dăruirea și purtarea lor de grijă.

News from Houston

Our little girl is playing with some crayons which she is taking from the trailer of a toy truck. We repeat in English: orange, pink, red, brown … There are two more children in the lobby of Burzynski Clinic. They are also playing with the toys taken out of an old trunk. The walls of the room are crammed with pictures and thank you messages of Dr. Burzynski’s patients. We are waiting. We are waiting for my mother to finish the treatment for today.

So we arrived in Houston, Texas. We left Romania Saturday, May 30th – mother, daughter and granddaughter. Three ages, three faces of the eternal feminine, modeled in clay, with their hearts all full of the same desire of everlasting life.

The trip was long, with a stopover in Frankfurt. The flight from Frankfurt to Houston lasted about 11 hours, a true sample of resistance for all three of us. At Houston Airport we were waited for by Father Mirel Tudose and his wife, who welcomed us warmly and led us to the motel where we were accommodated. It was raining very hard.

We celebrated Whit Sunday together with the Romanian community gathered around the St. Mary Magdalene’s Orthodox Church in Houston. After the Holy Liturgy, we attended a festive meal and an artistic performance organized by the children in the parish to celebrate International Children’s Day. We were greeted with much love as if we were special guests.

Monday, June 1, we met a medical team composed of Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, Dr. Gregory Burzynski (internist) Dr. Z. Yi (oncologist). After examining the latest medical reports and imaging investigations, the doctors explained to us the need for a treatment which would lead to tumor and metastasis remission. They proposed a treatment plan that includes tablets of antineoplastons, a milder and easier to tolerate chemotherapy, together with another medication for the immune system. This week, Mother started the treatment with these drugs, which were introduced gradually in order to monitor possible side effects.

We would like to thank all the good people who have helped us to get here, people who we carry in our hearts and thoughts every day. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Father Mirel Tudose and all wonderful Romanians in Houston who help us with their dedication and care.

Timp de aşteptare

Este un timp pe care-l trăim cu un amestec de răbdare şi nerăbdare, cu suflet mulţumitor pentru tot ajutorul primit, în speranţa unei plecări cât mai rapide în SUA. Este un timp bogat în întâlniri şi daruri, de la cei care ne sunt aproape cu inima. Pentru a umple cu folos aşteptarea noastră, pentru a răspunde prin fapte aşteptărilor lor, ne-am ocupat în acest timp de formalităţile pentru obţinerea vizei pentru Statele Unite. Interviul la Ambasada Statele Unite este programat pe 20 mai. De asemenea, ne-am interesat de posibilitatea de a efectua testul genetic înainte de plecarea la Clinica Buryznski. Am aflat că acest set de analize genetice şi de imonohistochimie, numit OncoDEEP Clinical Plus, poate fi făcut la Laboratorul OncoDNA din Belgia şi este în valoare de 3677,7 Euro. Rezultatele acestui test sunt necesare pentru stabilirea unui plan de tratament personalizat de către specialiştii de la Clinica Buryznski. Medicii din Romania ne-au dat tot ajutorul pentru ca biopsia să poată fi trimisă cât mai repede la acest laborator, iar vineri a fost pregătit transportul blocurilor de parafină. Rezultatele sunt aşteptate în 10-12 zile.

Mulţumim încă o dată celor care, din bogăţia sufletului lor, ne sunt aproape în această aşteptare. Ştim că dragostea lor ne construieşte un pod peste Atlantic. Dar mai avem încă nevoie de ajutor. Până acum, s-au strâns 91 234,22 RON, 3 353,21 Euro şi 4 390 USD (în total aproximativ  31 540 USD).

Waiting time

We are living these days with full hearts: a mixture of patience and anxiety, but also of enormous gratitude towards all the people who have helped us with the hope of our soon leaving for USA. These are days rich in meetings and presents received from all who stand by our side. In order to repay the incredible amount of kindness we have received and to meet the expectations and hopes of these wonderful people, we have occupied our time with the formalities necessary to obtain the USA visa. The appointment for the interview is on the 20^th of May. Also, we have contemplated the possibility to have the genetic testing done before the journey to the Burzynski Clinic. We have learnt that this set of genetic analysis and immunohistochemistry testing called OncoDEEP Clinical Plus can be made by the OncoDNA Laboratory in Belgium and costs 3677,7 Euros. The results of this test are required by the specialists of the Burzynski Clinic in order to establish a personalized treatment plan. The Romanian doctors have given us their full support so that the biopsy should be sent immediately to this laboratory, and the transportation of the paraffin blocks has been prepared this Friday. The results are expected in 10-12 days.

Again, we would like to express our deepest thanks to all the people who are close to us during this waiting period. We do know your love is building a bridge for us over the Atlantic ocean. But we still need your help.

Început

Ceva din dragostea şi jertfa ei a trecut şi trăieşte în noi toţi, cei care o cunoaştem. Mamă a doi copii, profesoară de matematică energică şi dedicată, diriginte şi părinte sufletesc pentru generaţii întregi de elevi, director de şcoală pentru o vreme, Ştefania Albu s-a dăruit întotdeauna pe sine pentru binele celorlalţi. Nu s-a cruţat. A dăruit mereu: timp, suflet, încredere, sfat, forţă şi bucurie de viaţă, putere de luptă, dragoste.

Dar undeva, înăuntrul unui trup sensibil care se consuma odată cu sufletul înveşmântat în iubire, creştea sâmburele unei încercări. Boala se întindea tăcut, perseverent. Abia în octombrie 2014 avea să iasă la lumină. Diagnosticul – limpede pentru medici – este tulburător pentru noi, cei care o iubim. Cancer de sân, stadiul IV cu metastaze la plămâni, oase şi undeva intre inimă şi plămâni – în spaţiul mediastinal. Nu se mai pune problema operaţiei. Rezultatul biopsiei dezvăluie faptul că este o celulă greu de prins, de vânat, de oprit. Triplu negativ, ceea ce înseamnă că boala nu poate fi tratată sau măcar ţinută în loc cu medicamente hormonale (pastile). Rata de multiplicare a celulei este de 80%. Singurul tratament standard disponibil este chimioterapia. Peste ea încep să se rostogolească termeni medicali, lungi serii de tratament, efecte secundare din ce în ce mai severe. Lupta cu boala devine epuizantă. Dar şi-o asumă cu curaj, cu credinţă, cu răbdare.

Cineva ne vorbeşte la un moment dat despre clinica doctorului Burzynski din Statele Unite. O clinică unde se folosesc terapii ţintite împotiva diferitelor tipuri de cancer. E suflul nostru de speranţă. Parcă prindem aripi. Traducem rapid documentele medicale şi le trimitem la clinică. Ni se răspunde că Dr. Burzynski a mai tratat pacienţi cu un astfel de diagnostic obţinând rezultate bune. Dar pentru a ajunge la clinica din Huston, Texas, pentru efectuarea unui complex test genetic, pentru elaborarea unui plan de tratament personalizat şi primele tratamente ţintite este nevoie de 50.000 USD.

Şi-atunci, ne-am gândit la cei cu inima mare şi care vor să ne fie alături. Orice gând bun, informaţie, răspândire a acestui mesaj printre prieteni şi sumă de bani ne pot fi de folos pentru a-i oferi speranţă ei şi nouă, celor din viaţa cărora face parte.

Beginning

Something from her love and sacrifice lives in all of us, the ones who know her. Mother of two children, a math teacher full of energy and dedication, class master and parent, model for generations of students, high school principal for a while, Stefania Albu has always given the best of her for the sake of the others. She didn’t spare herself. She always gave: time and soul, trust and advice, energy and joy of life,  love.

But a silent disease was growing somewhere inside of her fragile body, which was consuming itself. The disease was spreading in silence but constantly and rapidly. It was only in October 2014 that the illness came to light. The diagnosis: clear for the doctors and overwhelming for us, those who love her. Breast cancer, stage IV, with metastasis in the lungs, bones and somewhere between the heart and the lungs – in the mediastinal area. The possibility of a surgery is not an option. The result of the biopsy reveals the fact that the cancer cells can be hardly stopped from spreading. Triple negative, which means that the disease cannot be treated or at least restrained with hormone pills. The rate of multiplication is 80%. There is only one standard treatment available, namely chemotherapy. She is overwhelmed by complicated medical information, long cycles of treatments, side effects that prove to be more and more serious and unbearable. Fighting the disease becomes exhausting. But Stefania continues to stand ground with courage, faith and patience.

At some point, someone told us about Dr. Burzynski’s clinic in the USA: a clinic, in which targeted therapies are used against different types of cancer. It is our new ray of hope. We quickly translated the medical reports and sent them to the clinic. We received the reply that Dr. Burzynski has already treated patients with the same diagnosis and with good results. But in order to go to his clinic in Huston, Texas, and to do a complex genetic test, so as to to receive a personal treatment plan and for the first targeted therapies she needs 50.000 USD.

So we thought to turn to those with a generous heart who would like to stand beside us in this predicament. Any good thought or information, further communication of this message or amount of money is of substantial importance and will offer hope to her and us, those whose lives she enriches.
